Ideas

the overall concept for this page is now highlighting the contrast between rustic broken equipment, with colour, sounds and designs leaking out of cracks in the images and design, representing ideas (my work) standing out in a shady environment.

First drafts and design inspiration

these sketches are of broken musical equipment although this idea could be applied to computer equipment and artistic appliances making it more relevant to me and the corse.
the idea of broken equipment has influenced me to make the layout of my website as a damaged synthesiser keyboard, with the different pages being on different keys, with some keys being used purely for comical noises etc
This will also work well as it will allow me to have a simple black and white colour scheme due to the colours of the keys, with colours and designs coming from an image of the keyboards speaker when certain keys are scrolled over.

My design

From here i decided that i wanted my portfolio website to incorporate the simplistic ideas from jay-Zs album cover, whilst having a complex design that does not by any means interfere with the usability of the site. The idea of broken studio equipment appealed to me as it would give a glossy yet damaged look to the website.

Further research

Jay-z's album "the blueprint 3" also interested me as the main logo is simply three horizontal lines on top of each other. This is contrasted by the fact that the equipment behind these lines is not photoshoped but instead actual tape players and recording equipment, painted red in the right places in order to achieve the "threequal" logo. using complex means to achieve an otherwise simple image
